Through real world experience, we’ve built a full stack service from evacuation, & visa applications, to supporting families with medical bills, rent, & food.
● About Us
Like a startup on steroids we have responded to two humanitarian crises.
Formerly known as Afghan Innovation (AI Foundation), Back Humanity was founded in August of 2021 as a response to the crisis in Afghanistan. What started as a volunteer lead effort from entrepreneurs, engineers and students from Silicon Valley grew to a structured, organization providing on the ground support to families in Afghanistan and again during the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
This is us at the start of the Afghan evacuation - a band of techies turned humanitarians working from Sophia’s apartment.
Sophia Mahfooz
I'm Sophia Mahfooz the founder and CEO of Back Humanity. In the last 2 years we saw an unprecedented number of families become displaced by war and climate change. From Afghanistan to Ukraine, to the earth quake in Turkey and Syria. For the first time we saw a collective response in Afghanistan and later in Ukraine. Our team was one of many civilian lead efforts to support families who were being displaced, our unique positioning was that we leverage the tech sector to to supercharge our efforts
Founder
We’ve quickly mobilized in a multi-faceted and effective ecosystem, building relationships and strategically working with governments and key international stakeholders.
● Some of our achievements
Afganistan
We have helped families get to Spain, Portugal, Germany, Qatar, USA, Greece, Canada, UK and continue our efforts.
Ukraine
We have partnered with military and ex-military experts to deliver meals and medical kits to Ukraine, with a goal of 500,000 units.
Success Rate
we have only had 1 case denied in 10 months that’s a 99% success rate when it comes to visas.
Team
We have grown an incredibly skilled and dedicated international team based in the US, UK and Spain
Funds
We rapidly raised funds through internal networks to continue our work across the regions.
International Collaborations
We have strategically partnered with and collaborated with organizations who we now fund locally to continue their work on ground.
Government Relations
We have opened corridors for families by strategically working with governments, royal families and NATO, brokering deals- advocating- finding creative solutions when the conventional way failed- we found another avenue. As time goes on- it’s gotten more difficult to get governments to cooperate. As governments further restrict their refugee intake, we increase our targeted work to get cases approved.
